What are the rare pairs?
We are aware that rare pairings are hard to define, especially with the growing popularity of former rare pairings, however we have done our best to decide which pairings are too popular for this fest. We have done this on the basis of what pairings have specific active fests or communities that hold challenges related to them on LJ. We apologize if you do not agree with these pairings, however, for this challenge we have decided on these banned pairings:

Notes: • If you would like to appeal for one of the pairings, the mods would be happy to discuss it with you. However, we do believe that if said pairing already has a fest on Livejournal, we do not consider it a rare pairing for this specific fest.

• If you believe a pairing should be on this list, the mods would also be willing to discuss that with you.

• Please don't be afraid to approach us and discuss. We are very nice and we're always willing to talk about it.

• Please be aware that we can't make everyone happy, but we will try our best. As we said, it's very hard to define a rare pairing.

• As soon as the prompting post has been posted, this list will no longer be edited.

Unfortunately we are unsure about rare pairings in the femmeslash section of the fandom. Does Ginny/Luna have a fest of their own?

Honestly, I'm not too sure myself. I know they have a community, but I don't know if there have been any specific fests...

Just curious, but on what grounds is Bill/Fleur not a rare pair? While it's a canon couple, there is very little fic written about them, and they don't have their own fest.

We based some of our classifications on answers we received when questioning writers about rare pairings as well, which is where we came to the conclusion of Bill/Fleur. However, as there is not a fest or community that holds challenges specified to that pairing, we will take them off the banned list. Thank you for letting us know. :)

What about Harry/Luna? They don't have an exchange, but they have a comm.
Also, as much as I love them, I don't think Draco/Pansy is rare. Nor is Draco/Astoria.
And, while I never thought of it as non-rare, Snape/Luna apparently have an exchange which has already run twice and may run again this year.

I honestly don't know if the mods are planning to do another round or not. You'd probably need to check with them. I was only pointing out that there was an existing Harry/Luna fest.

We are choosing to accept Harry/Luna for now on the basis that their fest isn't active and the comm doesn't hold challenges.

Do you know if Draco/Pansy or Draco/Astoria has fests or challenge communities at all?

And wow, I wouldn't have expected that about Snape/Luna, but we will look into it.

There are actually two communities for Draco/Pansy, draco_pansy and dransy. There is also dmpp_ldws for the Draco/Pansy LDWS challenge. All these comms are not terribly big or active but by no means dead. As fun as that pairing can be, I doubt it classifies as rare.

Yeah, the three comms mentioned above for Draco/Pansy aren't very active at all, and they don't have a fest. I do have trouble finding fic with them, so I personally would classify them as a rare pair.

Draco/Astoria is in the same sort of boat, with dracoxastoria and draco_asteria but no fest. I definitely think they classify as a rarepair, too.

But that's just me :)

But, honestly, Draco/Pansy has tons of fics on ff.net, for example.

If there isn't any fest for any of the comms, we'll accept Draco/Astoria and Draco/Pansy. We are mainly looking at whether they have any fests and such for it to count. While we believe Draco/Astoria and Draco/Pansy aren't RARE per say, they aren't very popular either. So we will accept them.

Bonjour everyone,

I never thought that some of the couples that I ship might be rare pairing....but I am starting to believe that maybe I also belong here (2 of my pairing are major one Snarry and Drarry...and Drapery).

However, I have a huge soft spot for Fenir/Harry and Harry/Tom Riddle or Harry/Voldemort. I'm hoping I'll find something up my alley in this up coming fest. :D
