Welcome to hprarefest, a fest established for Harry Potter rare pairings. This fest is an anonymous, prompt-based challenge.



Rules

• Participants and readers of this fest MUST be 18 years old. There will be explicit stories within hprarefest and the mods will take no responsibility for underage readers or writers.

• These are our banned pairings. Please take a moment to look at these pairings. :)

• This is an anonymous prompt-based fest. Fic and art may contain het, slash, femme slash, and threesomes of all ratings. All genres are welcome in this fest! Angst, flangst, fluff, hurt/comfort, romance, drama, humour, etc. If you can write/draw it, we want it!

•All stories submitted must be unique to this fest.

• Again, this fest is anonymous, please do not tell anyone other than your beta(s) what the specifics of your story/art. We want the submissions to be kept as secret as possible. In addition, please only mention your beta(s) by initials in your author’s notes. Once the fest is over, there will be a big reveal and authors/artists will be able to respond to all comments as well as post their submission to their own journal!

• If you have questions, you may ask them questions here in the comments. Additionally, you may email the Mods directly at: rarefestmods@gmail.com

• All entries must be at least 1,000 words in length and beta read. There is no maximum. If you do not already have a beta reader, we will be putting a call out for betas after claiming has closed. Alternatively you can try hp_betas or hp_betas_wanted. Mods reserve the right to proof your submissions and return your fic/art to you if it's a total mess that clearly hasn't been looked over.

• Please include all appropriate html tags in the body of your story. Don't know what html tags are? Go check out phoenixacid's html guide.

• As soon as your entry is complete and beta read, feel free to email it to us. Fic should be sent in .docx, .doc. Art should be jpeg, gif, or png, please. (The subject of your email should read: SUBMISSION- YOUR USERNAME)

• Once we've confirmed receipt, you may ask for an additional prompt if you so desire.

• Extensions will be judged on an individual basis. Try to give us as much notice as possible, we mods don't love last minute panics, it messes with our pretty schedules! (The subject of your email should read: EXTENSION- YOUR USERNAME). If you need to drop out for any reason, please send us an email letting us know before the deadline for submissions and there will be no consequences.

EEEEE!!! I love rarepairs, just because it gives me a chance to explore my other ships. One question. Are we able to submitt our own prompts after the signup deadline?

One other tiny thing. not sure if it's my screen, but it's a little difficult to read the comments, the text is really light.

Just to clarify - because I'm an idiot and don't want to miss out - if we've got our own idea for a rarepair story we want to write for the fest, what's the protocol? Do we have to message/mail the mods at a certain time to let them know what we're writing?

You don't need to sign in or anything to post your prompts :) However, to claim prompts and write them, you must claim one prompt when we post the claiming post, which will be this time, tomorrow night. :)

when you say "In addition, please only mention your beta(s) by initials in your author’s notes." do you mean when i send the story to the mods via email? should i not let you know my lj name there as well? how will you know who i am for the "big reveal"?

The beta is the person who will be proof reading your story. So you do add your username in the area specified for it, yes, however for your beta, you only initial their name so it doesn't give away who you are. For example, if your beta's username is bobsyouruncle you would inital is byu.

Hi - I live in Australia and we have a different ratings system (e.g. PG or M instead of PG-13). The fic I claimed is NC-17 - what does that mean?

Hello from a fellow Australian!

NC-17 would be considered a R in Australia. NC-17 contains graphic sexual scenes and violence. The next rating in writing down from the NC-17 is the R. R contains scenes of non-graphic sex and violence. It would be considered a M in Australia.

Art can be like--you take a concept from the prompt and draw it. It doesn't have to be a full detailed comic or anything, just a general idea.

I have two questions, because I couldn't find anything about it in the rules.

1) How much of a 'pairing' does the rare pair have to be? Would something like pre-(fem)slash/pre-het or unrequited feelings/one-sided love be allowed? I mean something that isn't gen or simple friendship but not a fully realized romantic relationship either. Or something where the potential is clearly there but the 'relationship' as such doesn't happen because of outside circumstances, like someone dies before something can happen or the relationship would be inappropriate etc.?

2) Would it be possible to participate anonymously? I know posting will be anonymous anyway, but I mean remaining anonymous after the reveals.

Hi! Hopefully I can help answer your questions!

1) I think something pre-slash etc would be fine! Or unrequited would also be fine. As long as it's obviously a bit more than friendship - or leading up to.

2) Yes, you can absolutely stay anon if you so choose! Just let the mods know and we'll be sure to keep your anonymity once the fest is over.
