But when an apparently simple theft turns out to be connected to something much larger and darker than she would have imagined, her investigation leads her to seek help from friends old and new - like a couple of hotshot young Aurors, a crankily redeemed potions expert, perhaps a sulky Malfoy heir, and of course the Ministry's top arithmancer. Oh, and her brilliant but ever-so-meddling mum, of course! But as she works ever more closely with Hermione, she starts to wonder if the investigation is the only thing bringing them together. And…what does Hermione herself feel?

Scenario: Dark magic - the original way of working magic - is by tradition taught one-on-one, passed on from master to disciple. And the relationship between the teacher and student has always been an important part of such a path of study. Despite hating him now, Severus has never quite been able to forget how he also had always loved, not only the magic, but his teacher too….

Anything else/Special Requests: My idea of dark magic is influenced by Jodel's (Red Hen's) theories - that is, dark magic is simply older, less tamed magic, not necessarily all evil/bad/etc. But it is relatively more dangerous to the caster.
What would be really awesome would be a complex, good-guy Severus with genuinely mixed feelings. Voldy can be as cold and manipulative as you like - if he wants to simply use Severus' feelings against him, fine. But if he has some shred of distant but real (if twisted) fondness for him, that would be fantastic.

Scenario: AU. Regulus survived the cave, joined the Order and raised Harry. Now Harry is at Hogwarts, and Voldemort seems to be on his way to returning. A mysterious puzzle tied to Regulus' name has surfaced, to draw Regulus even deeper into the riddle of the origins of 'Lord Voldemort,' whoever that really is - and into great danger. When the time comes, will his beloved Severus be able to save him? And at what cost?
